House Passes DHS Funding Approved by Senate

The measure does not include Immigration and Customs Enforcement or Customs and Border Protection.

The House of Representatives passed legislation on Thursday that was previously approved by the U.S. Senate, which funds the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), excluding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The funding bill ended the 11-week partial government shutdown and provides funding for agencies such as the U.S. Coast Guard, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Secret Service, and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Now I just want to say that sometimes the process around here is cumbersome, that’s the way this works, but in spite of our razor-thin, historically small majority, House Republicans continue to deliver for the American people,” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said after the bill was passed.

“After 76 days, the longest government shutdown in history is over,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated. “DHS is back open, [ICE] and [CBP] will be funded through reconciliation.”

The bill to fund federal immigration enforcement has entered the reconciliation stage in both the Senate and the House.

Secretary Mullin added, “To our great, patriotic employees who have continued to protect the homeland every single day without a guaranteed paycheck—thank you. President Trump and I are very grateful to be in the fight with you to Make America Safe Again.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speaker Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Thune as they work to reconcile legislation to fund federal immigration enforcement.
  • For Secretary Mullin as he manages the Department of Homeland Security and its many agencies.
